Actively engaged in our community.
As individuals and a company, we’re excited about the opportunity to contribute to the community that we live and work in. With our total number of lawyers and support staff exceeding 150 people, we’re convinced that our involvement with a variety of organizations and initiatives can have a significant impact. Whether it’s serving on the boards of charitable organizations and public companies, coaching community sports teams, or contributing time, energy, and money to local fundraising campaigns – we take pride in supporting Manitoba and its livelihood.
A small sample of the community projects we’re involved with includes:
We actively promote an annual employee fundraising campaign to raise support for the United Way. The two-week campaign consists of many unique events and competitions that raise funds and increase awareness of the community agencies that are sponsored by the United Way.
A philanthropic focus has been on fundraising for CancerCare Manitoba. Through the firm’s participation in the Challenge for Life Walk and Dragon Boat Races, we have raised more than $300,000 for Manitobans of all ages affected by cancer.
We also support Robson Hall, the law school at the University of Manitoba, by sponsoring an annual negotiation competition and our lawyers devote countless hours volunteering as judges and as guest lecturers. The firm also created the Fillmore Riley Endowment Fund to offer assistance to students following graduation from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. The objective of the award is to provide students with debt relief on personal bank loans or lines of credit incurred to support their legal studies at Robson Hall. These awards are intended for students graduating from the Faculty of Law who remain in the Province of Manitoba to article or to practise law.
